I can't count the times I heard people tell my Dad, "Scotty, you should write a book", or "Scotty, you should write those down". I'm sure he heard it a lot more than I heard people telling him. He also heard "Oh, Scott will you stop with that nonsense". The latter coming from my mother. She heard them the most and can be fogiven for growing weary of them.

When dad's health started going downhill, my brothers and I started writing his sayings/rhymes/witticisms down. We tried to get his input, but funny thing is, he could pull out the appropriate one at any given time, yet if you asked him to think of one, it was hit or miss. Timing is, as they say, everything.

So three and a half years after his passing (and 6 days after what would have been his 81st birthday), this blog is our attempt to share Pap's "Words of Wisdom" with everyone.

I'm Scott, the oldest son, though not junior. Dad was Richard Scott, but always went by Scott or Scotty. Little quirk of my dad's family. He had three brothers and three out of the four went by their middle names. All boys in his family, and I have two brothers, Bob and Jim. Jim is the youngest and spent more time in the house than myself or Bob. Other than my mother, Jim probably heard the most, and he has a good memory.

So here we go. I want to start by saying that by no means am I claiming that Dad made any of these sayings up himself. Apologies to those who did, especially if Dad butchered them in any way. Dad's talent was his uncanny ability to remember what I guess is every one he ever heard and to inject them into conversations at just the right time (or wrong time depending on your perspective). We've come up with roughly 125 or so, and surprisingly, ones will still pop into my head that we don't have on the list.
